36 Week Doctor Appointment

I had my first internal exam today. I was sooo nervous because I was scheduled to see a *gasp* man! I've never had a male doctor for that purpose. I've been rotating through the office and know it's no big deal, but still, I was nervous.

I gained 8 pounds since my appointment 8 days ago... 8 POUNDS!

My blood pressure was 145/78. Last week it was 110/70. Huge difference.

I also mentioned that I haven't been feeling Connor move around as much.

So I had my internal along with my group B strep test. It was all over quicker than I could blink.

Then the doctor put me on a fetal monitor to monitor Connor's heartrate and movement. He moved a lot during that time.

After sitting on the monitor for about 20 minutes I spoke with the doctor and he warned that I could be at risk for pre-eclampsia or toxemia because of my BP and weight gain. I have to go back tomorrow for a BP check.

If my BP doesn't go down, he's pulling me out of work.

Cross those fingers for me!

25 vs. 35 week belly

25 Weeks

35 Weeks
What a difference 10 weeks can make!

Preparing for the After Party

Jennings was s-i-c-k all last week. On Monday I stayed home just in case he needed me. Seriously y'all, he's never been so sick. It was terrible.

To take up some of my day, I decided to go ahead and make some freezer meals. I headed off to HT and came back with all this:

Combined it with some stuff that I already had in the pantry and created this...
Obviously not the packaged stuff, but the tins... 10 freezer meals! Yum!

This was the worst thing I created... ugh.

It only took me about two hours to complete all 10 meals (really it was only 5 things that I split into 8x8 pans, we're not big fans of leftovers at the Lobster House).
Here are the recipes I used... yes, this is about to get really long. (I still need to make the Pizza Bread Roll and Pancakes, but as you can see, I don't have much room left in my freezer.)
Pizza Bread Roll
Vegetable oil spray
1 frozen bread dough loaf, thawed (I bought Pillsbury seamless dough instead)
1 c. pizza sauce
8 oz. shredded mozzerella
1/4 c. freshly grated parmesan cheese
Assorted toppings of your choice
1 egg, beaten

Spray baking sheet with oil. On a floured surface, roll loaf into rectangle, about 12x16 inches. Spread with pizza sauce. Sprinkle with assorted toppings of your choice and cheese. Roll tightly, beginning at short end, and place seam-side down on baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg. Cut four slits in dough to vent. freeze.

Spaghetti Casserole
8 oz. angel hair pasta
1 lb. ground beef
26 oz. jar spaghetti sauce
1/2 can cream of mushroom soup
8 oz. sour cream
2 c. shredded colby-monterey jack cheese

Cook pasta for a slightly shorter time than directed on package until just done. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, brown beef and drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce. Remove from heat. Stir together cream of mushroom soup and sour cream. In 9x13" freezer pan, layer half the meat sauce, pasta, sour cream mix, and cheese. Repeat layers. Cover tightly with foil and freeze up to 3 months.

CREAMY CHICKEN ENCHILADAS
One 10¾ oz. can Healthy Request Cream of Chicken soup
8 oz light sour cream
1 cup Pace picante sauce
2 tsp. chili powder
1 lb. chopped or shredded cooked chicken
2 cups Kraft 2% Mexican 4-Cheese
Ten 6-inch flour tortillas

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 9×13 pan with cooking spray.
2. Stir soup, sour cream, picante sauce and chili powder in a medium bowl.
3. In a large bowl, stir 1 cup of the sauce mixture with the chicken & 1 cup of the cheese.
4. Spread about 1/4 cup of the chicken mixture down the center of each tortilla. Roll up and place seam-side-down in prepared dish. Scoop remaining sauce over the filled tortillas. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Spray a piece of foil with cooking spray. Place sprayed-side-down on enchiladas and cover tightly.
5. Bake for 40 minutes or until enchiladas are hot and bubbling.
Top individual servings with tomato and onion. Add a dollop of guacamole, if desired.

Layered Enchilada Bake
1 lb. (450 g) lean ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
2 cups chunky salsa
1 can (19 fl oz/540 mL) black beans, rinsed
1/4 cup Kraft Zesty Italian Dressing
2 Tbsp. chili powder
6 medium flour tortillas
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup Kraft Tex Mex Shredded Cheese

HEAT oven to 400ºF.

BROWN meat with onions in large skillet on medium-high heat; drain. Stir in next 4 ingredients.

PLACE 3 tortillas in single layer on bottom of 13x9-inch baking dish. Cover with layers of half each of the meat mixture, sour cream and cheese. Repeat layers; cover.

BAKE 40 min. or until casserole is heated through and cheese is melted, uncovering after 30 min. Let stand 5 min.
Lasagna
1 lb. (450 g) lean ground beef
2-1/2 cups Kraft Part Skim Mozzarella Shredded Cheese, divided
2 cups light ricotta cheese
1/2 cup Kraft 100% Parmesan Grated Cheese, divided
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 jar (700 mL) pasta sauce
1-1/2 cups water
12 lasagne noodles, uncooked

HEAT oven to 350°F. Brown meat in large skillet on medium-high heat. Meanwhile, mix 1-1/4 cups of the mozzarella cheese, the ricotta cheese, 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese, the parsley and egg until well blended; set aside.

DRAIN meat; return to skillet. Stir in pasta sauce. Pour water into empty sauce jar; cover and shake well. Add to skillet; stir until well blended.

SPREAD 1 cup of the meat sauce onto bottom of 13x9-inch baking dish; top with layers of 3 lasagna noodles, one-third of the ricotta cheese mixture and 1 cup of the meat sauce. Repeat layers two more times. Top with remaining 3 noodles and remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle with remaining 1-1/4 cups mozzarella cheese and remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Cover tightly with greased foil.

BAKE 1 hour. Remove foil; continue baking 15 min. or until heated through. Let stand 15 min. before cutting to serve.
Corn Bread Taco Bake *I'm super excited about this one*
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 pkg. taco seasoning
1/2 c. water
1 1/2 cups frozen whole kernel corn
1 cup pureed salsa
1 batch corn bread batter (see below)
1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese

Brown meat; drain.
Stir in next 4 ingredients.
Pour into 8x12 baking dish.
Prepare corn bread batter.
Spread over meat.
Top with jalapeños if desired.
Bake uncovered at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
Top corn bread with cheese.
Bake 5-7 minutes.

Corn Bread Batter
1 cup corn meal
1 cup flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup vegetable oil
pickled jalapeños (optional)

Mix dry ingredients, add milk egg and oil, mix just enough to moisten dry ingredients.

Chicken Souvlaki Dump Chicken
4 chicken breasts, cooked, cut into large chunks
1 1/2 tsp oregano
1 clove minced garlic
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp oil
1/4 cup lemon juice

Combine spices and oil.
Add lemon juice.
Place (or "dump") chicken in freezer container or bag, pour marinade over.
Freeze.
To serve, heat in microwave in glass dish. Drain off excess mainade. Serve with baked potatoes and a veggie side, such as carrot sticks or steamed broccoli.
To prepare without freezing, place raw chicken in marinade for at least 30 min (up to a day). Thread onto skewers; broil or barbeque until done, approx. 5 min on each side.

Le'go those eggos basic freezer pancakes
16 to 20 5" pancakes OR 24 to 30 4" pancakes
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups buttermilk OR use 1 1/2 cups buttermilk plus 1 cup club soda and reduce baking soda to one teaspoon
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 to 1/2 cup cooking oil
1/8 teaspoon salt
OPTIONAL 1/2 to 1 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract
nonstick spray or griddle
This batter breaks the rule about lightly mixing pancake batter and leaving it lumpy. It is blended smooth. But like other pancake batters, it makes better higher, lighter, fluffier pancakes if it sits at least an hour before baking, or even overnight in the refrigerator.
In a blender or with a mixer, combine all of the ingredients until smooth.
When ready to cook, preheat the griddle or skillet over a medium heat, tending toward low. Use a pan with a nonstick surface or apply a little nonstick spray. When ready, a drop of water dances across the surface; if it puffs into steam, the griddle is too hot. Pour the batter by ice cream scoop or ladle into the hot pan, forming equal circles.
To get perfectly round pancakes, make sure the pan is level and pour the batter straight down onto the griddle surface. Note the time. When the edges just appear to harden and the top is slightly dulled and full of bursted holes, they are ready to turn. Note the time and flip the pancakes. They should be a light golden brown. Cook pancakes on the other side for same amount of time, until golden brown.

To freeze, lay flat in a single layer on a cookie sheet in the freezer until frozen hard, then bag and seal. To use, either take out the day before and defrost in the refrigerator, or cook still frozen in the toaster to heat. To microwave, reheat covered so they don't dry out.

Jennings's Family Shower!

Jennings family threw us a shower April 10... I'm just now getting around to posting.

The shower was awesome. Jennings's sister should really look into becoming a party planner or something, she always does such a great job.

Because we love the beach and the theme of Connor's nursery is beachy, she made that the theme of the shower.

Enjoy some pictures...

Why yes, that is a gold fish swimming in the vase beside the cake. Don't worry, all the goldfish were taken to Jennings's grandfather's small pond to live happily ever after.
All the tables had decorations similar to these. Yes, there is a gold fish in the bowl.

Jennings's family really listens when someone says they like something. Almost all my favorite foods were there. I don't think there was a single thing I wouldn't eat.

Present time!

Winner winner chicken dinner! The best present of the day!

Baby’s senses are continuing to improve -- when light peeks in through your (extremely) stretched belly, those tiny eyelids and irises blink and dilate. And, baby can now recognize and react to simple songs… time to start practicing your lullabies! Growth (at least inside your womb) is starting to slow, and you may notice baby descend into your pelvis at the end of this month.

Almost passed out at work today...

I was standing up teaching my 1st block class and almost passed out.

So I called the doctor and of course they're closed today because they're moving to a new fancy office. Finally got in touch with the on call nurse and she told me to take it easy and if I couldn't sit while teaching I had better go home.

Now I'm home, grading projects and watching Wife Swap on Lifetime. Not too shabby. Except that my students have a midterm on Wednesday.

Connor's First Shower!

Yesterday was our first shower for Baby Connor, thrown by my side of the family. Of course, as always, food was center court for a while.

When we got home from church this afternoon we set about getting all the presents organized and put away.

I'm very aware that I promised a belly picture in my new dress... however, we had a few waredrobe malfunctions yesterday that almost brought me to tears. Irrational, pregnancy hormone tears. I could have sobbed like a little baby. Let's just say that I ended up not wearing the dress I loved and had planned all week to wear. Therefore, you get no picture.

31 Weeks

No picture today. Our first shower is tomorrow and I can't wait to show off in my pretty new dress!!!

How far along? 31 weeks
Total weight gain: +13.5
Maternity clothes? Yep.
Sleep: Is it possible that Connor moving around at night is Mother Nature's way of getting me ready for late night feedings? I can say that my heartburn is getting better at night now that I've figured out a few tricks. (I take Zantac twice a day, eat before 7ish, and take a walk after dinner.)
Best moment this week: Yesterday was a half day with the kids at school and today is a teacher workday.. I'm taking the day off to organize Connor's room. It's great.
Movement: Wow.
Gender: Snips and snails.
Labor Signs: I think I had my first BH contrax the night before last.

Milestones: My belly button has almost made it all the way out.
Baby’s energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. (Have those kicks and jabs to the ribs tipped you off yet?) Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as you’ve also probably noticed -- they don’t necessarily coincide with your own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments.

I love surprises!

Jennings had to drive about an hour away today to take a test for his new job. When he got home he carried in this box.

This beautiful chocolate with buttercream icing and chocolate ganache cake was inside! What a great surprise! :)

27 Weeks

How far along? 27 weeks

Maternity clothes? I had to buy a few new casual shirts last night, everything's getting too short!
Sleep: I haven't slept well the past few nights. Jennings had a cold and kept me up coughing... then passed it on to me and I spent the night coughing last night.
Best moment this week: Settling on maternity leave. May 21 will be my last day at work unless Connor decides to arrive early!
Movement: Gracious, this boy never sits still... unless I want him to move!
Gender: Snips and snails.
Labor Signs: None.
Cravings: Water, really really cold water. Still. Oh yeah, and a margarita on the rocks please.
Belly Button in or out? Still in... I don't think it'll be long though.

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Well hello there third trimester...

it's very nice to meet you.

Please be as good to me as second and not nearly as terrible to me as first.

1 Hour GD Test and Kidney Stones!?!?

Yesterday I took the whole day off for my doctor's appointment. I had to do the 1 hour GD test which involved drinking some sugary concoction that tasted like really sweet Hawaiian Punch (I doubt I'll be drinking HP anytime soon).

I'm glad I thought to take the whole day off because I woke up with a UTI. At the doctor's office I told them I suspected a UTI and they asked, "How do you know?" Um... because I'm not a moron?!? Seriously, if a woman who had a UTI three weeks ago (and you called in meds for her) tells you she has another UTI, you have to ask her how she knows?

I digress.

My urine sample had a lot of blood, so they believed me. I got a Rx of Macrobid and went happily on my way.

About an hour after leaving the office I started to get this dull, achy pain on the right side of my back, you know, around my kidney. I took a nap, used a heating pad, and it didn't get any better so I finally called the doctor's office (I was almost in tears, Jennings of course thought I was over exagerating, but whatevs). I told them I suspected a kidney stone.

They called in Tylenol-3 and scheduled me for a renal ultrasound this morning. I went ahead and took today off as well.

Sometime last night, during one of many trips to the bathroom, I felt a strange feeling while going #1. I didn't think much of it as I knew I had the UTI.

This morning, I woke up feeling amazing. Apparently, I passed the stone last night.

At the ultrasound we did discover that my right ureter was dialted, which could be because of the stone, or simply that I'm pregnant. We'll never know now.

Luckily, didn't see anymore stones so hopefully I'll be good the rest of the pregnancy. Fingers crossed.

26 Weeks... HOLY CRAP! 3rd tri is looming!

My view of Connor

How far along? 26 weeks
Total weight gain: +7
Maternity clothes? Yep. I bought two new pairs of black pants this week as I've out grown one pair from previous shopping trips already!
Sleep: If I roll over on my left side before I fall asleep, I get terrible heartburn. I have to fall asleep on my back. In the mornings, after hitting the snooze button, I can sleep on either side.
Best moment this week: Having tons of strangers ask when the baby's due. It's nice to know I really do just look pregnant and not fat!
Movement: He's moving right now!
Gender: Snips and snails.
Labor Signs: None.
Cravings: Water, really really cold water. Still. Oh yeah, and a margarita on the rocks please.
Belly Button in or out? Still in... for the time being.
What I miss: Sleeping on my tummy.
Weekly Wisdom: When almost everyone in your department comes down with norovirus, don't say no when three different people come into your classroom and offer to disinfect!
Milestones: We're in double digits now!

100 Days!

Holy crap! 100 days give or take a few or maybe more... I'm freakin out man!

25 Weeks!

Belly pictures from 24w1d and 24w6d should be uploaded this weekend.

How far along? 25 weeks
Total weight gain: Yesterday I weighed and was +3.5
Maternity clothes? YES! Ugh, I can't stand them.
Sleep: I wake up several times a night now. I use more than one pillow, and Connor has decided that around 11 is his playtime and does flips and stuff while I'm trying to fall asleep.
Best moment this week: Seeing my belly move.
Movement: He's a mover!
Gender: Boy!
Labor Signs: None.
Cravings: Water, really really cold water.
Belly Button in or out? Still in... for the time being, it's getting waaaay shallow though.
What I miss: Sleeping on my tummy.
Weekly Wisdom: Even if your husband patronizes you for wanting to start the nursery at week 25, don't listen. If you nag enough, he'll start ;)
Milestones: I've definitely seen Connor move my entire belly. Won't be long before I see his hands and feet coming out like a crazy alien movie.

Let your spouse put an ear to your belly -- he might be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required). Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving baby a healthy pink glow. Baby's also soaking up your antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

22 Week Belly Pictures

I promise I'll add a belly picture tonight!

How far along? 22 weeks
Total weight gain: I haven't weighed since 21w5d and I was -2 so the weight's definitely coming back!
Maternity clothes? YES!
Sleep: Getting bad... I can't sleep on my tummy, if I turn to my side I feel like my belly is going to rip right off.
Best moment this week: We went to the beach last weekend and shopped til we dropped for the little guy.
Movement: He's a mover!
Gender: Boy!
Labor Signs: None.
Cravings: Water, really really cold water.
Belly Button in or out? In
What I miss: Sleeping on my tummy.
Weekly Wisdom: I got nothing this week.
Milestones: Jennings is definitely feeling Connor kick now. It's amazing.

Watch what you say -- baby is now able to hear outside noise from down in the womb. Studies show that baby finds gentle music and your own voice most soothing. Nipples are starting to sprout, and that little face is fully formed. And, baby's starting to settle into sleep cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day. It shouldn't be hard to figure out when -- just pay attention to those kicks as they start and stop.

Babymoon!

This weekend Jennings whisked me away for a babymoon to Myrtle Beach... I know what you're saying, "Myrtle Beach!?!? What kind of romantic place is that!?!?!" Well, to you naysayers, I say, I love Myrtle Beach. Jennings and I have both been going there since we were kids and know the place like the back of one another's hand.

I left work at 12 on Friday and we headed out, but not before Jennings went by Best Buy to pick up our new camera. Really I suppose it's Connor's new camera since we used him as the excuse we needed to buy one ;0)

The first night there we didn't do much. Unfortunately, the bed was the pits. We were excited because when we called and made our reservations Jennings's first question, as always, was "Do the beds suck?" He's just a little picky about his mattresses boys and girls. The response we got was promising, our room had just been renovated in the past month and had a new mattress. Sah-wheet!

Apparently, a new mattress does not mean a soft mattress. I am one of those people who could sleep anywhere and this mattress provided me with the worst three nights of sleep of my life. I kid you not, this bed was harder than sleeping on the floor. It sucked. I woke up with a backache every day. I was tempted to pull out the sleeper sofa and truly believed that the bar across my back that all sleeper sofas provide would be more comfortable.

On with the good stuff though...

We shopped, and shopped, and shopped, and shopped... Connor will definitely not be a naked little boy that's for sure. He got some of the cutest outfits (another entry to come on the clothes). Jennings got some nice clothes and some golf clothes. We even got Carolina Panthers jerseys buy one get one free... Jennings got Beason, I got Williams.

Now on to the weird part of the weekend... I thought people were crazy when they said pregnant dreams would make you nuts... they weren't kidding!!!!

One night I dreamed that I slipped at fell at work and was bleeding. I was terrified that I was losing Connor. When the EMTs got there, they played "War" with the JAFROTC students!!! Are you serious!?!? I cried and cried in my dream. It felt so real!

Another night I dreamed that Jennings decided to become a polygamist. The woman he wanted for his second wife just so happened to be his ex. Did I mention his ex lives behind us now... oh yeah, and she's a labor and delivery nurse at the hospital Connor will be born at!?!?

No joke guys, crazy dreams.

Houston... we have a kicker!

Last night I was laying in bed with my hand on my belly... I knew I felt my hand move from one of Connor's kicks so I called Jennings and put his hand in the same place.

Jennings finally felt him kick. It was the most amazing thing, the look on his face was priceless.

Then Connor spent the rest of the night kicking around and having a good ol' time at Mom's expense. It's okay though, I guess I'll forgive him, after all he's still the sweetest little boy I've ever grown! ;0)

20 Weeks 3 Days with ACTUAL BELLY PIC!!!

How far along? 20 weeks 3 days
Total weight gain: Minus 6ish...
Maternity clothes? YES! Can I just say that maternity pants suck? I hate pulling them up all the time... it's either that or I look like I just dropped a load.
Sleep: I wake up in the wee hours to pee at least twice now. It's getting more uncomfortable to sleep on my tummy.
Best moment this week: Getting a cute little onsie that says "Little Stinker" because my nickname is "Stink"
Movement: He likes to kick!
Gender: Boy!
Labor Signs: None.
Cravings: Water
Belly Button in or out? In
What I miss: Tonight I really wanted a glass of wine and since I don't drink red... that was out.
Weekly Wisdom: If you have a question, ask. No one thinks you're weird for asking things like, "Does baby really kick your bladder and make you pee your pants?"
Milestones: Definite movement!

Baby's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, speaking of the diaper situation... baby's genitals are now fully formed!
